INTRODUCING THE SUMMER SCHOOL It has been a long tradition in universities to arrange summer schools which offer an opportunity for further study, skill development in certain fields and also personal development. We feel that this is also a perfect vehicle for shamanic work which is focused on preparing participants for both the year ahead and a lifetime of exciting work. LOCATION The 2008 Summer School will be held in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia.....A beautiful location which provides access to a wide range of facilities and, above all, natural beauty.

The Program

 The program is entitled The Australian Shamanic Spirit: Weaving the Dreaming World Within Worlds to demonstrate our commitment to developing a shamanic practice which reflects the history, people, culture and spirit of this country. It is not Aboriginal, European or any other cultural flavour: it arises out of this place and beckons us. This year’s program builds on and extends the work of previous Summer Schools, but it is available to all who wish to start on this path or extend their skills and knowledge. 

The program will be an exciting one which has the following elements: 

• Visionary Practice in Australia: This part of the program allows us to locate our spiritual work in this country and the people who have walked before us. We will be doing visionary work in nature in challenging circumstances.

• Reading the country: Letting this country speak to us in our dreams, visions and healing. We enter into the dreaming domain of the country which the Greeks referred to as the daimonic, the place of myths and poetry, symbols and the far reaches of consciousness.
• Medicine ways: Developing a grasp of your medicine and the medicines which exist in the many worlds of shamanic practice. Using these medicines in ways which enhance your skills in shamanic work and especially healing. Encountering the shadow of healing, sorcery and learning to deal with it.
• Australian shamanic ceremonies: Tools for shamanic practice which are built out of the spirit of this place. Worlds within Worlds is a profound ceremony in which we express the ways in which we can enter into other worlds and travel in the service of healing andf wisdom.

The program is designed to provide an advanced shamanic experience which, of necessity, will be demanding and yet immensely rewarding. This means that the process will be one of initiation, broadly understood, into medicine ways. This will extend into directions for practicing in the Australian community. 

There are three phases to the program:

 Phase 1: Orientation [2 days]

Preparing for the work ahead through the use of visionary methods and establishing medicine tools for the journey and initiatory processes which unfold. Working in clans. Unfolding stories of beginnings.

 Phase 2: Journey: The Moving Trance [ 5 days travelling to selected sites in the region]

 During this journey, by bus and foot, we will visit places of spiritual significance, but more important, make our own maps of the country and its spirit, performing special ceremonies and healing work. Building our medicine. The theme of the work this year is to explore and domesticate the technologies of consciousness which are specific to the shamanic path. Each day in this phase of your work you will learn how to move into and create dreaming worlds which serve shamanic work using technologies of mind and body. This work will draw upon examples of technologies from many cultures…. Africa, the Americas, Asia, for example, but adapted to life in Australia. In this, you will also create a shamanic identity.

 Phase 3: Integration [3 days]

 In this phase of our work, we bring together our discoveries to serve our Australian Dreaming and Medicine Practice. You will be taught important ways of working with people through an initiation. Also, you will experience the ceremony of Worlds within Worlds which will take you forward into the arena of shamanic practice through expanding the domain of your awareness, energetic resources and identity. 

The program will be intense and demanding. Most days will be full from early morning onward. However, we will also be having recreational activities, down-time for relaxation and regrouping.

 The staff: 

Dr. Rafael Locke. Trained in several traditions of shamanic practice, fully initiated and a teacher of shamanic practice for nearly 30 years. Dr. Locke teaches a formal shamanic practice program through Ikon Institute and is a Director of the International Medicine Ways Institute and HealthQuest Medical as well as directing the Spirit of the Earth Medicine Society SOTEMS. 

Dr. Locke will be assisted by fully trained members of SOTEMS.

 Fees:

 For the 10 day program:

             $2250.00.   Deposit $500.00 

This includes transport form airports, bus or train and return, accommodation, food, local travel, all training materials.
