Dynamic Shamanic Practice

One of the most significant challenges shamanic practitioners face is how to maintain continuity, effectiveness and dynamic healing in working with our clients. While much of shamanic work may involve one or two sessions in which powerful healing rituals are performed, there are circumstances where there is a long-term [weeks or months] involvement required. Moreover, as we work effectively with people, their needs change and we are required to change our strategies.

To address these factors and to help you grow your practice and competence, the workshop will offer the following:

Visionary practice as a dynamic, unfolding process for shamanic practitioner and clients: Working across time, space and worlds
The thin threads of lives and how to identify and maintain them: Weaving the threads with the medicine of the spider [Alamburra]
Creating medicine houses, working with them and living in them
Using technologies of mind [consciousness] and body to effect healing: The medicines of Gwaana [Wedge-tailed eagle] and Bungarra [Goanna]
Special topics:

Working with death and dying

Working with birth and living

Working with mental disorders

Hubris and Humility: Sorting yourself

The workshop is open to all persons who have completed some significant shamanic or medicine ways training: The Ikon Institute Shamanic Practice Diploma, or the first four modules of this course, the Spirit of the Earth Medicine Society training program, the Summer School programs, or some equivalent work.

STUDIES IN SHAMANIC PRACTICE: CERTIFIED PRACTITIONER COURSE.

Shamans represent the oldest profession on the planet. Their imprimatur is found in Palaeolithic art, sculpture and funerary objects. It is also found deeply inscribed on our psyche as a species. For the shaman is the steward of the soul, the being who facilitates the journey from birth, through all of life's transitions, and into death and beyond. This is a journey which defines our human status in the world. It is the stuff of myth and memory as the shaman journeys with us and beyond, unfolding the stories of lives and possibilities in the service of our realization and healing.

The program has been developed over the last twenty years by Dr. Ralph Locke through research and participation in shamanic practice in a number of cultures around the world....the Americas, Caribbean, Africa, Southeast Asia and Australia, for example. Commencing in 2004, a series of fascinating and challenging courses will be offered as a sequence for personal and professional development. All of the courses retain a faithful connection with shamanic traditions as well as translating shamanic work into modern idioms of psychology, medicine, anthropology and other disciplines.
